In this photo that was posted on her Instagram page, Rihanna shows off her dreadlocks.

Bajan pop star Rihanna decided to channel her inner Rasta on Monday as she debuted waist-length dreadlocks to her 44 million followers on Instagram.

The Man Down singer not only showed off her new hairstyle, she also made it clear what inspired her as she captioned the photo with the phrase ‘Buffalo Soldier’.

Buffalo Soldier is the title of one of Bob Marley’s most famous songs. The song was recorded in 1978 but was not officially released until 1983 when it appeared on the album, Confrontation, by Marley and the Wailers.

Rihanna’s fans, more popularly known as the Rihanna Navy, have been giving the singer thumbs up for her new look, praising her for edgy style.

This is not the first time that the singer has sported locks, but each time she does, it draws the attention of the media.

Her sporting the look comes at a time when the style is in the middle of a cultural appropriation controversy after mega fashion designer Marc Jacobs styled his models using the look at his recent showing at New York Fashion Week.
