 Producer Danny Champagne—

Music producer Donald Grant better known as Danny Champagne, has died. Grant passed away on Saturday due to complications from a stroke he suffered in 2013. He was 65 years old.

His daughter, Danielle, described her father as “a very caring and loving person”.

“A lot of persons have called me saying how much he has helped them over the years. He was always willing to assist,” she said.

Champagne was a popular figure on the entertainment scene. His Champagne International label scored a number of hits between 2005 and 2009.

Dancehall artist D’Angel, whose hit Downtown Girl was produced by Champagne, said he taught her a lot.

“He was a really good person at heart, very genuine and always willing to listen. He also taught me a lot about the music business. He will be truly missed,” she said.

Champagne is credited with giving vocal group Voice Mail its first number one single.

“Danny produced our first number one song Weh Di Time and our follow-up hit Ready to Party. We also worked with him on a cover of John Holt’s Memories by The Score. As much as I knew he was sick, I wasn’t prepared for news of his passing,” said Voice Mail member Kevin Blair. “He is responsible a lot for the direction and the break that we got.”

Grant is survived by six children. Funeral arrangements have not been finalised.
