Hezron—

When Hezron recorded Taxi Driver for Stone Love Productions in January, the artist’s instinct told him he had a winner. “From it do mi feel it,” the dreadlocked singer told

Splash. Taxi Driver was not the runaway hit Hezron envisaged. But months after its release, the song rode local charts and airwaves, giving the 38-year-old artist his biggest hit in some time.

With nearly 20 years in the music business under his belt, Hezron knows the nature of the game: not every song is an overnight hit.

“When yuh competing wid so much song it kinda tough. There are so much songs out there it (Taxi Driver) didn’t get the chance it deserved,” he said.

Taxi Driver has opened the door for follow-up singles like MoBay, which is inspired by the violence that has rocked that tourist city in recent months.

Written by Hezron, MoBay is produced by Swiss independent label Addis Records.

The success of Taxi Driver is timely. Hezron recently got back his United States visa and traveled to that country last month, for the first time in nine years. His travel documents were seized due to a ‘misdemeanour’.

Hezron is from Reading, St James. After migrating to the US in the late 1990’s, he kicked off his career with a handful of R&B songs for Def Jam Records and Warner Bros.

Dancehall fans know him best for the lovers’ rock songs So in Love, Those Days, and Forever And Always which are from his 2014 album: The Life I Live(d).

Hezron believes Taxi Driver has paved the way for smooth sailing in 2017.

“It mek people look up an seh ‘yes Hezron’. It really give mi a buzz in the streets.”
