GT Taylor—

There is a change in venue this year for the Boom GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza.

After 15 years, the organizers have moved from Independence Park in Black River to nearby Luana Sports Complex. The event takes place on Christmas Day.

Founder and promoter GT Taylor blamed the split on the St Elizabeth Parish Council, operators of Independence Park. He claims the parish council rented the venue to another event which takes place two days before his show.

“That does not give us enough time to set up our production and they said nothing to me. That’s total disregard for people who brought recognition to the venue,” Taylor said.

Taylor staged the inaugural ‘Extravaganza’ at Hendricks Wharf in Black River in 2000. It moved to Independence Park the following year.

The show attracts the biggest dancehall artists as well as emerging acts from St Elizabeth.

This year Taylor and his team will showcase artists who have made an international impact, including Freddie McGregor, Wayne Wonder and Beenie Man.

One aspect of ‘Extravaganza’ that remains intact is its focus on charity. Part of the proceeds will go the St Elizabeth chapter of the Jamaica Cancer Society.
