AFTER another successful run, the 2016 Korean Film Festival (KFF), which ran from October 26 to 27 at the Palace Cineplex in Sovereign Center, St Andrew, will make the trek to the second city on November 9 through 10, at the Palace Multiplex in Fairview Complex, Montego Bay.

“The 2016 Korean Film Festival, which has been held for five years in a row, will not only strengthen the existing cultural bond between Korea and Jamaica, but also bring the two countries a step closer to a stronger relationship going forward,” Jong Seon Lim, the head of mission of the Republic of Korea to Jamaica, told the Jamaica Observer.

This year, Jamaica and South Korea celebrate 54 years of diplomatic relations.

The opening night of the Kingston leg of the KFF saw a strong turnout by dignitaries and local fans of Korean popular culture. And it was a treat as the two films on hand, The Suspect and A Hard Day transcended their language and culture barriers to provide an entertaining night of viewing.

The Suspect is an action-packed suspense thriller from start to finish, starring Gong Yoo as Dong-chul. The 137-minute movie is about a North Korean agent abandoned by his country who becomes a cab driver in South Korea. Accused of murder and treason, he starts a war to prove his innocence.

A Hard Day offered a more humorous side to its storyline. It is a about a luckless police detective who becomes the target of blackmail after trying to cover up a hit-and-run.
