Two veterans of reggae and dancehall have come together with a contemporary entertainer to make a number one song on the reggae charts in Canada.
“Crying Out For Love”, a project with Yellowman, Ken Boothe and Kafinal, recently hit number one on the popular Rebel Vybez Reggae Charts in Canada, bringing a sense of accomplishment to all concerned.
The idea for the song originated with Kafinal, a 2016 Juno Award winner, and was conceived after he reflected on the current state of world affairs.
“As we look at the world as it is today, we are continuing to see the trends of social injustice, killing of the innocent and wars in many ways and in many different places,” he told THE STAR.
Perilous times
Boothe, who is on a month-long tour in Europe, said it was time the world reverted to more meaningful values.
“When we describe love, we speak of things like selflessness, kindness, compassion, respect and care for one another. These are the virtues which we are calling for our fellow brother and sisters to share,” he said.
Yellowman, born Winston Foster, said it was imperative that he was a part of this project in these perilous times.
“We need to tell the world that love is the answer and so I lifted my voice to share that message with the world along with the two great singers,” he said.
Kafinal said it was a worthwhile experience working with the two legends of reggae and dancehall to bring the project to life.
“Collaborating with these two giants of reggae has really helped to spread the message across generations. We have to continue sending this message of love to the world as we see so many unfortunate things continue to unfold,” he said.
