Vybz Kartel—

Convicted murderer Vybz Kartel has been transferred from the Horizon Adult Remand Center to the maximum security Tower Street Adult Correctional Facility.

Pearnel Charles Jr., the junior national security minister, confirmed that ‎Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was transferred on Tuesday.

“I wasn’t given that information as to why,” Charles Jr. said.

A prison source says Kartel, a dancehall artist, has been transferred to Tower Street for “confinement”.

Meanwhile, Charles Jr. He told THE STAR ONLINE that  Commissioner of Corrections Ina Hunter is the best person to say why Kartel was transferred.

Kartel has been at Horizon since 2011 when he was arrested for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

Following his conviction and sentencing in April 2014, he was returned to that facility where he had started serving his life sentence with 35 years before he becomes eligible for parole.

Meanwhile, the transfer of the ‘World Boss’ coincides with mounting concerns that he is apparently recording songs while incarcerated at Horizon.

“There is a facility at one of the institutions that allows persons to do recordings that would aid in rehabilitation, through music – something that we encourage,” Charles said.Image result for vybz kartel, convicted, jamaica gleaner

He told THE STAR ONLINE that the questions being raised about Kartel recording from prison are unrelated to that rehabilitation program.

“I think what you are referring to is the notion that somebody is, in a clandestine way, recording music that is then being sold out of the regulations. That is something, if it is being done, that we would have to regulate. But I have not received anything to that effect, coming to me officially,” the minister said.

Kartel’s attorney, Tom Tavares Finson, also confirmed that the dancehall star was transferred but said he did not know why.

On Tuesday he told THE STAR ONLINE “I have no idea, nor do I care” whether Kartel is recording music from prison.
