Plans are progressing for the inaugural Love & Harmony Cruise which hits the high seas from February 27 to March 3 next year.

Popular New York radio personality DJ Jabba, who is part of the organising team, told the Jamaica Observer that over 80 per cent of the cabins have been booked. The projection sees them reaching full occupancy by the time the cruise leaves Fort Lauderdale for Jamaica and back.

“The response has simply been great; actually it’s kinda shocking. To tell the truth, we were a little nervous going into this venture. After all, it is a first time we are doing anything like this… no track record, but the response has given us hope and confidence that we have a great product and we were right in deciding to take on this,” he explained.

Jabba added that part of the attraction is having perennial favourite Beres Hammond in the entertainment package. Grammy-winning deejay Shabba Ranks adds to the appeal.

The Love & Harmony Cruise follows the hugely successful Welcome to Jamrock cruise organised by the Marley Brothers — Stephen and Damian. But Jabba does not want to be drawn into comparisons.

“The truth is the world is big and everybody can do their thing. What we are promising is a great vibe with some world-class foundation acts, as well as artistes who are now making a name for themselves. We are also targetting a different demographic, so I believe we can all survive in the market and there is no need to be compared to Welcome to Jamrock.”

A full itinerary of activities has been planned to occupy passengers. Day one has a welcome party hosted by Hammond and Internet radio personality Kingsley “Raggashanti” Stewart, with music provided by DJ Roy.

Day two features a breakfast party with artists and passengers having the opportunity to mix and mingle. Activities culminate with the International Flag Party which features Barbadian soca star Edwin Yearwood and Jamaica’s Queen Ifrica and I-Wayne.

By day three, the cruise is scheduled to reach Ocho Rios.

“There will be a jerk festival on the pool deck of the ship, while for those who are coming on land, there will be a beach party at Margaritaville in Ocho Rios,” Jabba noted.

“When we get back on board it will be the Love and Harmony All-white party. The artists performing are Beres, Third World, LUST and Wayne Wonder. This will be followed by a ‘90’s party. Everybody is being encouraged to wear their ‘90’s clothes and just have a great party,” said Jabba.

Other activities include Dancehall Night with Shabba Ranks, Dexta Daps, Elephant Man, and Konshens.
