WHAT started as a hobby turned out to be a fruitful career for sibling disc jockey/selectors Marcus and Paul Gavin, known in New York party circles as the Platinum Kids.

The Manchester-born brothers host the popular Irie Fridays show on Irie Jam Radio in Queens. Their gigs range from house parties to clubs, drawing 3,000 or more fans.

Recently they wrapped a five-city trip of the United States with deejay Aidonia and did gigs with Mighty Crown, Fire Links, I-Octane, Jahmiel, Konshens, and Elephant Man. Working with high-profile acts has enhanced their brand.

“Being on the road with artists, we have gained the experience of crowd control, working directly with artists, artist management, and also production. It has given us exposure to different outlets, from TV, radio, magazine, major websites and newspaper write-ups,” said Paul Platinum, younger of the brothers. For the past four years they have been on Irie Jam Radio. The ‘Kids’ also play Thursdays at a block party in The Bronx and have done the growing Best Of The Best show in Miami.

According to Paul, “There is no formula besides love of music and our love to see the people in front of us enjoy themselves for the few hours away from the stresses in their day-to-day lives.”

The Platinum Kids are scheduled to be part of Beres Hammond’s Love & Harmony Cruise in February.
