The eighth annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival is scheduled to take place at the historic Monterey County Fair and Event Center May 26-28.
A few Jamaican acts are included in its line-up.
“The will showcase diverse programming on three stages with minimal overlap between sets,” said the festival organisers. “By releasing the line-up of acts this early, it allows patrons the opportunity to match the best ticket experience based on their interests.”
On day one, Jesse Royal is the only local artiste on the bill, outnumbered by American reggae acts. That day is headlined by high-riding reggae band Rebelution SOJA and Jewish reggae singer Matisyahu. Passafire and Zach Deputy, both from Georgia, and California-based Common Kings and Skanks Roots Project, as well as New Zealand’s SIX60 and The Late Ones from Hawaii round out the acts.
Veteran artist Yellowman and Protoje will represent ‘The Rock’ on day two. Again, they are surrounded by acts from other countries. Nas, Iration, Nahko and Medicine For The People, Alborosie, Easy Star All Stars, Rising Appalachia, Unified Highway, Through The Roots, Tribal Theory, Tyrone’s Jacket, and Darenots complete the lineup.
The festival’s final day will see Jah9 and Anthony B taking the stage. The other acts down to perform are Dirty Heads, Thievery Corporation, Jurassic 5, Collie Buddz, John Brown’s Body, RDGLDGRN, Ballyhoo, Mellow Mood, Humble Soul, Iya Terra, and Roots Of Creation.
