Drummer Basil Shirley, passed away in Germany on Wednesday after battling an undisclosed illness.
CEO of Penthouse Records Donovan Germain, has confirmed Shirley’s death and described him as an extraordinary musician.
“He wasn’t really a studio drummer, but he played with Til Shiloh band until Buju Banton was incarcerated. He was really good at what he did. He played very close to the record as possible. He was always on tempo and the band could really rely on him to give off that strong beat,” said Germain.
Germain, who said he has known Shirley for over two decades, said the drummer was extremely fun-loving and committed to his craft.
