Roger Steffens’ book, Marley Oral History, So Much Things To Say, is scheduled for release on July 11, the respected archivist disclosed on his website. French musician and music historian Bruno Blum has already given the project the thumbs-up.
“So Much Things To Say is by far the most important and definitive book written about Bob Marley. Therefore, in my opinion, (it is) the best book about Jamaican music, although there are other contenders. To me, it ranks with Mezz Mezzrow’s Really The Blues masterpiece, Mike Gerber’s Jazz Jews, and Keith Richards’ Life,” Blum stated.
Blum described the book as a major ethnology study.
“It’s about mankind on an anthropological level. It’s about identity, culture, pride, spirituality. It helps us to understand who we really are. That’s what Bob Marley was all about and as such his brilliant works stand unparalleled in the music business.”
According to Steffens, publishers have bought rights for So Much Things To Say to be translated in French, Brazilian, Spanish and Dutch.
This month marks the 36th anniversary of Marley’s death. He was 36 when he died from cancer in Miami.
Steffens has written extensively on Marley, his group The Wailers and roots-reggae.
