After being honored with a Pop award recently at the 34th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Hollywood, singer Richie Stephens got more good news that he will be honored at 30th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul (R&B) Music Awards on Thursday, June 22nd at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. The award is for his contribution to Rhianna’s ‘Work,’ which was among the top ASCAP songs on the 2016 year-end charts.
“When it rains it pours” an ecstatic Stephens exclaimed. “I am experiencing a thunderstorm in my career with these two international awards. I am also booked as a headliner with the Ska Nation band for Reggae Sumfest, an event that I have not performed in over a decade. After Sumfest, I travel with the Ska Nation band to Germany to perform at Reggae Jam which will be the first stop on our European summer tour. I thank God for the blessings because without him none of this would be possible” he said.
Prior to departing for Los Angeles for the Rhythm & Soul (R&B) Music Awards, Stephens will make a brief stop in New York on Friday, June 16 to launch his new Steely & Clevie produced album titled ‘Luv-A-Dub Style’ at the Milk River Restaurant in Brooklyn. Joining Stephens at the launch will be Ed Robinson; DJ Sister Nancy who is featured on one track; Platinum Kids, DJ Roy and Dub Master Chris from Irie Jam Radio. The 14 track disc, which is being distributed by VP Record, contain songs like ‘Feel Good All Over;’ ‘All Night Long’ featuring U Brown; ‘Love Her Up’ with Sister Nancy; ‘Come Back To Bed’ and ‘Rain From The Sky.’
Speaking about collaborations, Richie has recorded two new songs with Bounty Killer – ‘Luv-A-Dub-Style’ from the new album and ‘Bad Boys In Town,’ which is one of the hottest songs in dancehall right now.
“Richie is always encouraging me to do other types of music” Bounty explained. “He was the first person to get me to sing an R&B song. And if you check back, ‘Maniac’ is like a dancehall, pop rock song. When Richie suggested I do a Ska song, I thought it was a great idea. Music is our first love. He is Richie and I am Rodney Pryce, so when we get together, it is like priceless riches. That is what we add to music.”
