Dancehall artist Konshens recently signed a record deal with major US label Empire Records, a deal which is already bearing fruit.

Known for songs like Winner and Bruck Off Yu Back, Konshens told THE STAR yesterday that his management team and Empire have been working assiduously to cement his brand in the international market.

“They have been making the right contacts and they were behind the collaboration between myself and Chris Brown. Solid Agency along with my own hard work is also a factor in the recent success,” he said.

The singer also noted that despite his deal, he continues to work like he is an independent act.

“Some artists sign to a label and they feel like the label is supposed to be a father and mother to them so they stop working. But when you get a deal, you are supposed to still continue working hard,” he said.

As for the recent collaboration with Chris Brown for the remix of Bruck Off Yu Back, the deejay revealed he would be filming a music video as soon as possible.

Full potential

“It’s a matter of finding the time between his tour and mine. We are trying to get together to shoot the video and the song is still doing well and is just being added to some radio stations internationally,” he said.

The song was released just over a year ago. However, Konshens believes the record is yet to reach its full potential.

He is therefore following a similar strategy as Omi who promoted Cheerleader three years before achieving Billboard success.

“In Jamaica, we release music at a high frequency so in order to keep up, we have to keep releasing more music … it’s not easy to hold on to songs. But it’s a different ball game overseas,” he said.

Konshens and soca star Machel Montano also teamed up with Major Lazer to release a record titled Front Of The Line earlier this month.

The single is the official soundtrack for Bacardi white rum’s new Summer Heat advertisement, which was aired on Sunday night during the NBA 2017 finals.

Aside from his onslaught in the international market, Konshens is gearing up to host a memorial for his late brother Delus on June 18, at 12 Hillcrest Avenue.

The event will also be a launch party for the Delus charity foundation, which will aid in supporting persons suffering from depression and anxiety.

Konshens is also boasting a collaboration with platinum-selling group, The Chainsmokers, for the hit single Don’t Let Me Down.
