Will Vybz Kartel perform at the upcoming Jamaica 55 celebrations is the question being asked by many following the Entertainment minister’s decision to allow prisoners to showcase their talents.
Music News understands that inmates will be making their contributions through music and other skill areas such as visual and culinary arts.
So will the most famous prisoner perform?
Well according to a highly placed Music News source, the inmates who will be qualified are those who have exhausted their appeal and are in a position of rehabilitation.
Therefore, under the criteria, Vybz Kartel who recently won the right to an appeal would not qualify to perform at the upcoming Jamaica 55 celebrations.
Former Superintendent at the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Gladstone Wright has been appointed to work with the talented inmates.
Mr. Wright played a critical role in the development of the music program in the correctional facilities. He’s also responsible for Jah Cure’s infectious hit “Reflections (Behind These Prison Walls”) that was recorded during the singer’s incarceration.
