Minister of National Security Robert Montague is facing criticism from the Jamaica Federation of Corrections following his announcement on Monday that prisoners will be allowed conjugal visits.

A conjugal visit is a scheduled period in which an inmate of a prison or jail is permitted to spend quality time in private with a visitor.

Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Corrections, Arlington Turner, told RJR News that Montague has his priority in the wrong area. Turner says before conjugal visits can take place, there needs to be an improvement to the infrastructure of the island’s prisons.

Montague, who was speaking at Jamaica 55 Diaspora Conference in downtown Kingston, did not go into details about the proposed conjugal visit.

Meanwhile, Turner also criticized Montague for making a public announcement before consultation with stakeholders.
