Jamaican track and field legends Merlene Ottey and Usain Bolt shared an iconic moment when the ‘sprint queen’ visited with local athletes at the World Championships in London this week.
The two legends took a photo together which was shared by Bolt on social media on Wednesday, attracting hundreds of likes, shares and comments.
Bolt, Ottey and American Allyson Felix jointly hold the record for most career medals at the world championships with 14.
Bolt is expected to run his last race before retirement this weekend, bringing the curtain down on an extraordinary track career in which he has also won nine Olympic gold medals.
Before Bolt’s emergence, Ottey was arguably Jamaica’s most iconic track and field athlete. She competed for Jamaica from 1980 to 2000 before switching allegiance to Slovenia. Over that period, she became one of the most decorated athletes in history, winning nine Olympic medals to go with the 14 she won on the World Championship stage.
