Gospel recording artiste Prodigal Son is celebrating eighteen years in gospel music.

The songwriter, singer and deejay first came on the gospel scene in 1999 with the release of the single I Wish, in which he called for the salvation of some of dancehall’s then most popular artistes. Since then he has gone on to release five albums, scoring numerous hit gospel songs including World Changer, Ketch A Fire, Head Cyaa Hot So, and Bongo Town.

To mark the milestone, the artist has collaborated with his producer, mentor and friend Danny Browne, and is set to launch Pure Gold, his sixth album .

“Pure Gold is the state I now find myself in after the many fiery furnaces I have faced through my Christian journey. I believe that my mind and my thoughts have been renewed and God has allowed me to go through all that so that I can be purified. In the same way that gold has to go through fire to be purified, that is what God has allowed me to go through for me to reach this stage in my Christian walk,” Prodigal Son said of the concept behind the album’s title.

According to him: “This album is unlike any other Prodigal Son album. It celebrates the brighter side of Christianity, the reasons we should surrender to Christ …even when things look down and out Christ always comes through for me and that’s why I celebrate Him on this album. I want to tell the listeners that what I experience in Jesus, they can too. And I also want to tell Jesus thanks for all the blessings because right now I feel like pure gold. I call this my praise and worship album, my love songs to God.”

The album features collaborations with Jason Mighty, Kevin Downswell, Chevelle Franklyn, and a few others. He noted that two singles from the album, Jesus Biggerand Public Praise, are currently enjoying heavy rotation on Christian radio.

The celebrations will culminate with the launch of the project on October 21 during a gospel concert featuring Prodigal Son and friends to be held at Jamaica College in St Andrew.

It will be an evening filled with joy and laughter as my friends and I reminisce and share our musical journey with the audience. It will be a concert like none other ever seen in Jamaica. It’s my milestone and so I will be giving my best. There will be lots of prizes and surprise giveaways, including an extraordinary gate prize,” he said.
