Dancehall artist Khago, who resides in Florida, has resisted the multiple warnings to leave the Sunshine State before the deadly Category 4 hurricane, Irma, crashes into the state’s eastern coast.
“Mi cyah leave mi pickney dem, so let God’s will done. If I drive to New York and the storm comes there, am I going to drive to Boston? Then if it comes there, am I going to drive to Maryland? We are at the starting point, so after us, it will go to other places,” Khago told THE STAR.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has been warning people to evacuate, urging residents to “Get inland for safety.”
More than a million Florida residents have been ordered to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Irma. “It looks like it’s going to go right through the middle of our state.”
Khago, who sees natural disasters as form of punishment from God, has made it clear that he will not be leaving his newly acquired home.
“Places are getting beating now, and Jamaica will get its beating in due time because we are getting too wicked with crime, violence and materialism. I would love to drive out and go to someplace safe yes, but Jamaica mi would want to go, and no plane not flying,” he said.
The singer said he has taken necessary precautions and will also assist the elderly in the area who are unable help themselves.
“Mi batten down mi window dem, I took two days to do that. I am also going to help some elderly people who can’t manage to batten down their own houses. Some of these new houses come with storm shutters, and so all we have to do is screw and tighten. I lived in St Ann in Jamaica, and the roof was concrete, so I never used to worry much about storms,” he said.
