Middle Street in Mitchell Town, Clarendon, is to be renamed in honour of beauty queen Davina Bennett.
Desmond McKenzie, the local government minister, this week asked that a resolution be moved at the next sitting of the full council meeting for the renaming to take place.
“Once this is done, we will provide the necessary resources so that the road can live up to the new name that it will receive,” the minister stated.
McKenzie was speaking at a ceremony in Clarendon, where the 2017 Miss Universe third-place finisher was presented with the key to May Pen in recognition of her achievement in promoting and showcasing the cultural diversity of Jamaica
.
The presentation was made by Mayor of May Pen Councillor Winston Maragh at the Clarendon Municipal Corporation’s annual Christmas tree lighting and caroling ceremony on Tuesday evening.
“I can truly assure you that this means a great deal, and this is a moment I will treasure. It will endure with me forever,” said Bennett.
She has promised to continue doing her best to advance the cause of the town of May Pen, and to inspire and assist wherever she can.
“Don’t hesitate to call upon me,” she said.
