MARCIA Griffiths is mourning the loss of her older sister, Floreth Griffiths-Allen, who died in Florida on November 30 after a brief illness. She was 76.
The veteran reggae singer describes her late sister as a very close friend and confidant.
“Floreth was deeply committed to the family — both immediate and extended. She was well loved by all who knew her and she loved all of them in return. I’ve never seen that sort of unselfish love before,” Griffiths told the Jamaica Observeryesterday.
“I lived with Floreth all my life… she was the family historian; due to my long stints on the road, she would keep me abreast of what was happening with each family member… birthdays, anniversaries, everything. Who am I going to talk to now that she’s not around? It’s so sad, but God knows best!” she continued.
Griffiths, who is one of the headliners for Love and Harmony Cruise in March 2018, said the entertainment fraternity has been very supportive of her in her time of grief.
“I’ve gotten calls from everybody who heard … and those in the music fraternity who knew her, loved her. I want to thank them all for the love and strength they have given me with their kind wo
words and condolences,” she said.
Event planner Lisa Allen, daughter of Griffiths-Allen, described her mother’s love as “infectious”.
The funeral for Griffiths-Allen is scheduled for New Life Assembly of God on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew on Thursday. The service is slated for an 11:00 start. Interment follows in the Dovecot Memorial Park in St Catherine.
She is survived by 11 children and nine grandchildren.
