Theater lovers will be rolling in the aisles this weekend as one of this year’s Christmas play offerings, Set Up , is a guaranteed gut-buster.
The provocatively titled Set Up, will kick off at the Olympia Crown hotel beginning today, featuring an all-star cast of Keith ”Shebada” Ramsay, Maxwell “Bashy” Grant and Garfield “Bad Boy Trevor” Reid.
This comedy depicts the real- life challenges facing two different couples from contrasting socio-economic situations. One couple is the rich Coxes who hail from upper St Andrew but are having serious marital problems. The other couple, rastafarian Cappa and his common-law woman, Stella, who come from the ghetto, have love but their relationship is hobbled by physical fights and financial challenges.
Hilarity ensues when Shibby, who is a next door neighbor of Cappa, played by Trevor Reid, and Stella — alternately played by newcomers Trudy Bunting and Kimone Morgan — gets wind of the bedroom problems of the upper crust couple while at his day job as a butler for the Coxes.
He promises to fix the problems for a “fee” and arranges for Mr Cox, played by Maxwell “Bashy” Grant to meet Stella, who has the ‘bedroom remedy’ that he needs. Then in a bid to double up his money, Shibby also ‘sets up’ Mrs Cox, played by Monique Ellis, with Cappa who can meet her sexual needs. With all these shifting relationships, the play is delightfully set up for a bellyful of laughs that audiences will thoroughly enjoy.
