The artist is billed to headline the second annual staging of Red Rose for Gregory, scheduled for Valentine’s Day, February 14, at the Jamaica College Auditorium in St Andrew.
The concert is named after one of the hit songs from the late reggae singer Gregory Isaacs and is held in tribute to his memory. Gregory Isaacs, known as “The Cool Ruler”, died in London in 2010. His musical catalog includes hits such as Night Nurse, My Number One, Hard Drugs, and Rumors.
The event is the brainchild of his widow, June, and was first held last year and featured R&B group Atlantic Starr.
“This year, we went for Kelly Price as she has a great Valentine’s song, plus she has a series of great love songs so she was just a great fit for the Valentine’s Day show. Just like last year proceeds will go towards Patricia House, the drug rehabilitation facility. As you all know, Gregory had his challenges with drug addiction so we are continuing along those lines. Plus most times persons suffering from drug addiction feel so alone as those around them abandon them at this time as it is felt they knew the danger of what they were getting into. So we just want to continue lending our support,” said Isaacs.
She also announced the other acts who will be supporting Price on the bill.
“We have just confirmed Freddie McGregor… we all know how much of a crowd-pleaser he is. The trio Pakage is also on the show. This talented group of women Karen Smith, Gem Myers and Patricia Edwards, are all great performers in their own right , so bringing them together is just going to be a treat. The 2017 Digicel Rising Stars winner Short Boss as well as US-based artist Robert Minott complete the line-up.”
Isaacs noted that since February 14 is both Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday, Patrons are being urged to come out early so the show can start on time and finish at a reasonable hour, considering that the following day is a regular work day.
“Start preparing to come out in your red and white, and enjoy great music. It’s a holiday so patrons will come straight from home and we can have a great time and get home early for work the next day,” she urged.
