INTERNATIONAL dancehall singer Pliers and deejay Chaka Demus are back in the island after a successful gig at the Genting Arena in Birmingham, United Kingdom, recently.—
“The vibes was amazing in England. We got some forwards for Tease Her. They absolutely loved Twist and Shout, but we only got to a do a piece of Murder She Wrote. They (the fans) had a good time. The UK ah our place,” said Pliers.
The duo shared the stage with international reggae stars Shaggy, and Maxi Priest.
Chaka Demus and Pliers will be appearing for the first time on the Shaggy and Friends biannual charity concert on the lawns of Jamaica House in St Andrew on January 6.
Pliers is looking forward to the concert.
“This is the first time I am doing it. I believe it is a very important show for the kids. In fact, any charity for the Bustamante Hospital for Children is a worthy cause. the institution helps a lot of poor people who cannot afford it, it helps to save the kids’ lives; it is important for all the artistes to do it,” he told Jamaica Observer.
Pliers has been reaping success with a solo single, In it to Win It, which is doing well in local and overseas markets, and he expects even more recognition now that he has released a video for the project.
“The song is getting great airplay in the United Kingdom and the United States and even on local stations in Jamaica. It is in rotation on ZIP and FYAH. So this video will push the promotion to the next level,” he said.
The executive producers of the song are Stephen “Lenky” Marsden and Pliers himself. The rhythm was produced by Lenky, while the song will be distributed by Zojak Worldwide.
The duo Chaka Demus and Pliers had phenomenal success in the United Kingdom in the 1990’s with their iconic T ease Me album, scoring no fewer than three consecutive top five hits, beginning in 1993 which peaked at #3 on the UK singles charts, then She Don’t Let Nobody, and then a cover of the Top Notes’ Twist and Shout which topped the UK Singles Chart in early 1994. They had two other UK hits, I Wanna Be Your Man (# 19), and Gal Wine (# 20).
