Esmeralda Ophelia Schotman, was born into a heartwarming multicultural family on the island of Aruba, music was always playing around her. At age 16, she started performing in various African dance shows and soon started singing with a band called Los Bravos. During her career as a member of Los Bravos, she took off as a singer, dancer and bass guitar player.
Over the years, Esmeralda has shared the stage with some of the Caribbean’s most notable artists, such as Las Chicas Del Can (Dominican Rep.), Buju Banton (Jamaica), The Mighty Sparrow (Trinidad), Musical Time, Quasi and multiple other bands in Aruba. Esmeralda has made a name for herself by releasing various road-march songs during the Carnival season in Aruba. In 1991, she produced first album “Ecstasy” – which gave her a huge platform from which to grow.
After a few years off the scene, Esmeralda returned in 2014, and joined the popular Aruban band the “Kawura Roots Band. And in 2016, she had an unexpected opportunity to open up for legendary Reggae group Morgan Heritage in the British Virgin Islands. The performance led to more ideas to pursue a solo career and infuse other genres of music such as Kizumba, Zouk and Reggae. Upon her multiple visits to St. Croix, Virgin Islands, she began to collaborate with Reggae artist Pressure Busspipe. The association resulted in the hit song “Woman Like We” which is generating much interest on the Foundation Radio Network Top 30 Music Chart. She is currently working with the production team of Str8 Fyah Beats.
Esmeralda believes in the nurturing of women’s development and building of self esteem. The lyrics in her music speak volumes, as she is a firm believer in love, respect and happiness. Her goal is to be a guide for young women through her music.
