The singer used social media to announce her marriage to local violinist Mijanne Webster last Friday.

According to her post, she said making the big day public took some courage and equalled it to her coming out publicly in 2012.

“As an artist who is LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender), born and raised in Jamaica I never thought I’d ever say “My Wife” in this lifetime. I am completely and sincerely grateful to all who fought and continue to fight worldwide for our deserved equality and human rights. My true personality is introverted and private, totally different from the ME on stage. It’s a constant battle between what to share publicly or not. My hands R shaking as I write this post. For me it’s a sign that I am about to exercise courage because they shook like this when I came out in 2012. I’m sharing this because I strongly believe visibility is vital for change! And life is short, so I’m gonna live it … Authentically • I’s married now Celie! Love wins!” she posted on social media.

King was lead singer of the City Heat band and an in-demand backup singer before signing to Sony International affiliate Chaos Records in the early 1990’s. She hit gold for the label with the 1994 album Tougher Than Love, which was driven by the hit song Shy Guy.
