PRODUCER Lloyd “John John” James II has pooled together a formidable group of Jamaican artists to create the instructive War Games.

Released on December 22, 2017, the single by Shabba Ranks features Stephen Marley, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, and I-Octane. It is distributed by Zojak World Wide and is available online.

John John explained the thinking behind the single.

“This is the time for conscious music, so I decided to bring some artistes together with the intention of putting out some good music to encourage the youths,” he said.

War Games pleads for the youth to put the gun down and end the violence plaguing the country.

Originally recorded five years ago by Shabba Ranks, the producer decided to add a few voices to send a message.

Last year was one of the bloodiest in Jamaica’s history with the murder toll soaring to 1,612 — a 20 per cent spike over the previous year. The trend appears to be continuing as more than 45 people have been killed since the start of the year.

Recently the United States Government issued a Level 2 advisory to its citizens in Jamaica. It urged its nationals not travel to some sections of Kingston, and Montego Bay, and anywhere in Spanish Town due to “violence and shootings”.

The US has four, advisory levels: Level 1, is ‘a normal precaution’; the second level is ‘increased caution’; Level 3 is ‘reconsider travel arrangements’; and the Level 4 is ‘not to travel’.

“Whenever I stamp, it is good. After I listened to the song I really liked where it was going, so I said to myself, I need the voice of dancehall so I checked Bounty, Beenie, Octane and a few others,” said John John.

Shabba Ranks, Marley and Beenie Man are Grammy-winning acts.

Son of Lloyd “King Jammy” James, John John has nearly three decades of industry experience.

He is planning on putting out more conscious singles, in order to spread the message of peace.
