Several new residential developments have recently got approval from the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC), suggesting a construction boom across the capital city.
Allicute Construction and Equipment Limited will be constructing several two-story townhouses and studio apartments at 21 Long Lane, St Andrew.
The building application plans for the group of townhouses and studios was one of eight multi-family apartment and townhouse developments recently approved by the Building and Town Planning Committee of the KSAMC at mid-January meetings.
Seven of the developments were approved at the final building meeting for 2017 in December.
At the meeting on Wednesday (January 17), one new multi-family development was approved.
At the Long Lane development, 32 two-story townhouses and eight three-story blocks containing 48 studio units will be constructed.
Another of the multi-family building applications approved in December by the Committee was a revised application seeking permission to build 33 two-bedroom units and 59 studio units at Crieffe Road, Kingston 6. The original application to the KSAMC on November 15, 2015, was to build 22 two-bedroom units and 42 studios.
The Building Committee also gave approval for 54 studio units to be built at 25, 26, 27 and 28 University Road.
Over in the Paddington Terrace area — which is mainly comprised of older, single homes on large lots — at 21 Salisbury Avenue Kingston 6, 20 two-story two-bedroom townhouses and a three-story building containing 12 one-bedroom apartments are also to be constructed.
And at 8 Rochester Avenue, Kingston 8, approval has been given for the construction of a three-story apartment building of nine one-bedroom units.
At 23 Coolshade Drive, Havendale, a three-story apartment building with nine one-bedroom units is to be constructed.
At the Wednesday meeting of the committee (January 17), renewed approval was granted for a previously approved application for the construction of a three-story apartment building of 12 one-bedroom apartments at 17 Birdsucker Drive, Barbican. Fresh approval was sought after the building was redesigned.
