Reneto Adams—

Even before outgoing Commissioner of Police George Quallo announced that he would be going on pre-retirement leave, a petition was launched for controversial retired crime fighter Reneto Adams to get the job.

The petition was posted about two weeks ago on change.org with a target of getting 5,000 signatures. So far, it has garnered 3,860 signatures.

The creator cited that 1,617 Jamaicans were murdered for last year, so they are calling on the Police Service Commission to appoint Reneto Adams, while pointing out that one person can’t solve the nation’s crime problem.

“Jamaicans are urging and begging the five member-led Police Service Commission, please for once to think outside the box by selecting Reneto Adams as our next police chief. He will boost police morale which is very lacking now. He’s an outside the box person who will find ways to dramatically reduce crime,” the accompanying text read.

Adams, 64, has signalled a desire to be the man in charge of the Jamaica Constabulary Force on numerous occasions in recent times.
