Bajan superstar Robyn ‘Rihanna’ Fenty celebrated her 30th birthday last Tuesday, and, as expected, a huge bash was held to mark the milestone.

With the star always professing her love for Jamaican music, it was probably no surprise that a few local entertainers were called upon to be a part of the occasion.

A special surprise dubplate was created for Rihanna and was played at her party to huge ‘forwards’ from guests. The event took place in New York City at the Seagram Building.

Entertainers such as Beenie Man, Spice, Beres Hammond, Sizzla, and Popcaan were hailed by Rihanna’s best friend, Melissa Ford, via Instagram on Wednesday, when she spoke about the special dubplate.

“That bday dubplate last night was f**kin epic! Man like Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Popcaan and my bihh Spice,” the post read. In the one minute-long video posted on Ford’s page, Beenie Man and Sizzla can be heard ‘bigging’ up the Bajan beauty on her 30th birthday. Sizzla’s Gimme A Try was one of the songs mixed into the special dub.

When THE WEEKEND STAR contacted Sizzla’s engineer, Richard Bramwell, the Grammy-nominated producer said that he was the one who was contacted for Sizzla to be a part of the dub. He said the initiative was a gift of sorts from Rihanna’s best friend, and said that the Bajan bombshell had no idea a dub with some of her favorite Jamaican entertainers was in the works.

“Me go check Dr Dre from Renaissance and him did a work pon the project, because Rihanna deejay youth know Dre and make the links. When me go up deh (the studio), me see Beenie a do fi him own and then dem tell me say dem want Sizzla too,” he said.
