Having addressed the issue of her ‘twanging’ on ‘Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta’, dancehall diva Spice was back in the hot seat as some social media users took offence to a statement she made.

During another promo video for the reality series, which starts on Monday, Spice talks about using the show to elevate herself and move her career to the next level.

“Reality TV is the biggest thing. This is what people are into, so this is the best platform to elevate my career, to introduce, myself to a wider audience and I think it’s a great way to introduce my music as well,” she said. “I can’t get any bigger in my country, and so, here I am. This move that I’m making is to use the platform to get bigger than I already am.”

Her statement was met with mixed reactions. Although the majority of social media users seemed to understand what the ‘Queen of Stage’ was trying to say and agreed with her wholeheartedly, some took her statement to mean that she thinks that she’s ‘bigger’ than Jamaica.

“When you are a celebrity, you have to chose your words wisely and carefully … Usain Bolt can never outgrow Jamaica as Jamaica put him where he is today. We are here to support you, just have to be more selective with your choice of words,” a user commented.

In addressing the issue, Spice highlighted her many accomplishments in the music industry and said that she has done everything locally.

I did outgrow Jamaica or let me bring it down to your level. I can’t get any bigger than I am in Jamaica,” she said in reply to one of the comments on Instagram. “Ok, maybe you’ll understand this. Mi DUN big a Jamaica aredy so mi ago try see if mi can get big a merica too. Have a Spicey Day.”

When THE WEEKEND STAR contacted Spice for a comment, she said that she had already addressed the issue on social media and didn’t need to elaborate.

She also pointed to the hundreds of comments from persons who understood what she was trying to say and said that was all that mattered.
