Cutty Ranks—
CUTTY Ranks is beaming with pride as a song he recorded in 1997, Cosita Mix, has been remixed and has generated over 107 million views online in its first week.

The remix, Dame Tu Cosita, is recorded by El Chombo and features Cutty Ranks.

“I wrote and voiced a 45, Cosita, for the Panamanian producer Rodney Clarke in Panama City years ago. It was the first Spanish song I ever did; that song buss me in the Spanish market. I wrote a song with the chorus, and the idea was to say: ‘gimme your thing” and he came up with translation in Spanish. So I wrote the lyrics, and they sampled the ‘kill dem out’ from ‘6 million ways to die’ on the original 45,” Cutty Ranks told the Jamaica Observer.

“It is my voice on the sample. Dem leave out the ‘kill dem out’ sample from the ‘Six Million Ways to Die’ and add some other things. El Chombo is Rodney Clarke himself, that’s the name of his label. But now that Clarke has remixed with this French company, my publishers from London and my lawyer from the US is dealing with the business part of it,” he continued. Dame Tu Cosita features a video with a green alien and its doing the rounds on social media.

The song has been boosted by the Dame Tu Cosita Challenge, which is an online social game in which users on ArtNou application Muical.ly, attempt to re-enact the dance.

The original Cosita Mix was included in the 1998 album Cuentos de la Cripta Vol. 2 (Tales from the Crypt Vol. 2).
