WITH adverse weather conditions set to hit the Miami area over the weekend, organisers of Best of the Best have taken a pre-emptive approach and changed the venue for Sunday’s show.
The reggae event’s new venue is the nearby Manna Wynwood Convention Center — a 10,000-square-foot arena — located at 318 NW 23rd Street. The show is slated for a 5:00 pm start. It was originally set to be staged at Bayfront Park in downtown Miami.
According to the event’s public relations and media consultant Ronnie Tomlinson, the decision was taken on Thursday.
“Best of the Best is such an important event for reggae fans in the area, so we had to take every precaution. We didn’t want to hinder all the persons who are flying into Miami for this show so we took the decision to shift to this massive indoor venue. Everything will be the same as we have come to expect at the park. It’s the same set-up with our VIP area and all the amenities patrons have come to expect. The only difference is that we are indoors,” Tomlinson told the Jamaica Observer.
This year’s staging of Best of the Best will also see the first performance of deejay Capleton since he was arrested, then released on bail for a rape charge.
The organisers maintain that the law must take its course and kept him on the roster of acts to perform.
“Capleton is already in Miami and we are looking forward to his performance,” said Tomlinson.
“As we move into the final stretch the momentum is clearly building. Our VIP tickets sold out a week ago and we only have a few hundred tickets left. As organisers, we are very excited to bring this event to our loyal patrons with the only difference being that we will be indoors,” she continued.
Capleton will be joined by a raft of of Caribbean acts, including Mavado, Aidonia, Masicka, Ding Dong, Ghost, Romain Virgo, Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons, Shenseea and Richie Stephens.
