Mavado has spoken out about a reported shooting involving the artiste at his Cassava Piece hometown in St Andrew on Saturday.
In an Instagram post yesterday morning, the deejay insinuated that the reports are rumours that are being perpetuated in the media, but he did not give specifics.
“I’m just saying f*** the rumours. I wonder how much dem pay dem media friends for all this s*** dem a chat, anyway bless up my community Cassava Piece my ppl (people),” he wrote.
Efforts by the Jamaica Observer to reach the entertainer and his team were unsuccessful.
An official report from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s information arm, the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), revealed he and an individual had an argument around 11:30 am on Saturday. The person left the scene and returned with a group of men, one of whom fired gunshots at the entertainer who escaped injury.
The matter was reported to the Constant Spring Police Station and an individual is being held in connection with the incident.
The Constabulary Communication Unit, the police information arm, did not confirm if Mavado was the one who made the report.
“We don’t report on shootings, so we don’t have any information to state if he was the one who reported it,” District Constable Roseanne Dennis told the Jamaica Observer yesterday. “We don’t have any more updates.”
Mavado (given name David Brooks) was raised in the inner-city community of Cassava Piece, which he refers to as “the gully side”. He was a barber before joining Bounty Killer’s Alliance, and is also referred to as “Gully God”, in homage to his community.
Mavado got his big break in 2004 with the song Real McKoy. He is also known for tracks like Weh Dem A Do, Settle Down and Money Changer.
