His song writing skills have led to him working with other artistes including Dennis Brown, Aswad, and Gregory Isaacs. This week, we get to know this music stalwart a little more. This is Five Questions With ... Hopeton Lindo.
1. Was Music What You Always Wanted To Do As A Child Growing Up?
“Yes. I take pride in anything I do, but I have a special passion for music. I consider myself blessed to be able to not only sing songs, but write and produced songs for other artistes. Music has taken me all over the world and I have worked with so many other talented people in the business. It’s been a blessing.”
2. What Are Some Of The Changes You’ve Seen In The Music Industry Since You Got Your Big Break In The ’70s?
“The changes in technology. So we need to keep up with the latest in production, marketing, and utilising social media, etc. Social media has made it possible to reach the world with just a post promoting your product or music, and it’s free. You can make contact with people of similar interests and expand your base. It gives the opportunity to open doors – that was not as easy or possible before.”
3. What’s The One Thing You Love And Miss Most About Jamaica?
The people. Jamaicans know how to have a good time regardless of their personal situation and what they’re going through. We are proud and resilient. We also know how to make visitors feel welcome, and that’s one thing that hasn’t really changed over the years.
4. What’s One Thing People Would Be Surprised To Know About You?
I can draw a fairly decent portrait.
5. If You Could Do Any Other Job Outside Of Music For A Week, What Would It Be And Why?
I love to help people, so I would probably be doing something where I’m getting to do that. Maybe work in the medical field or social services.
