ST THOMAS, Jamaica —

Controversial dancehall artiste Gully Bop was last Friday arrested in St Thomas in assault charges following allegations that he slapped a girl in her face during a dispute.

The entertainer was granted $40,000 bail and is booked to appear in the St Thomas Parish Court on June 27.

The 56-year-old artiste who was christened Robert Malcolm was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

Gully Bop was arrested after the female complainant made report at the Morant Bay Police Station that he hit her in her face during a dispute causing swelling and pain.

The alleged incident took place at Nuts River District in St Thomas.
