Toots Hibbert
Toots Hibbert has inked a management deal with Primary Wave Entertainment, one of the leading companies of its kind in the United States.
Its objective is to lift the reggae legend’s profile even higher.
“The biggest thing is that we felt that he should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For us, it makes sense that he could get in, but we have to still gain the profile. His touring’s great, but we want to get to the next level. His image is great, but we have to get to the next level,” Eric Baker, management partner of Primary Wave Entertainment, told the Jamaica Observer.
Baker has over 28 years’ experience in music management, creative marketing and radio promotion. He previously worked at A&M Records, RCA Records, and currently manages Grammy-winning band Jefferson Starship.
The agreement with Hibbert will also see Primary Wave marketing his music catalogue, as well as his name and likeness.
“We are thinking about getting Toots his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, that is something I am going to look into when I get back to LA on Monday,” Baker said.
“We are a management company. It is a term of a couple of years. We want artistes to always be with us — we do a couple of years and their option is to stay with us. We feel confident he will stay us…we want to help him secure his legacy in music,” he added.
Primary Wave Music Publishing was founded in 2006. It owns 50 per cent of Kurt Cobain’s portion of the Nirvana catalogue, as well as the MGM Records catalogue. Last year, Primary Wave acquired an 80 per cent share in Chris Blackwell’s Blue Mountain Music, which owns the rights to Bob Marley’s Island Records, for $50 million.
The company also manages Cee Lo Green, Cypress Hill and Fantasia.
