Jamaica’s Caitlin Chang won a historic silver medal in fencing at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Barranquilla, Colombia on Saturday.—
It’s the first ever fencing medal won by a Jamaican at a multi-sport Games. Chang, 25, was beaten 15-10 in the individual épée final by Cuba’s Jocelyn Cruz.

Her silver lifted Jamaica’s medal tally at the CAC Games to eight – three gold, a silver and four bronze.
In men’s fencing (individual sabre) Donovan Deans beat the US Virgin Islands’ Theodor Weller 15-8 in his first match, but then lost 15-9 to Venezuela’s Jose Quintero.

In other results, Jamaica placed sixth in women’s hockey after going down 4-1 to the Dominican Republic in the play-off for fifth spot. Trudyann Knight was the scorer for Jamaica.
In badminton Jamaica lost both matches in the mixed team event on Saturday. They were first clipped 3-2 by the Dominican Republic then lost 5-0 to Guatemala. The members of the Jamaican team are Mikaylia Haldane, Che Beckford, Katherine Wynter, Samuel Ricketts and Gareth Henry.
In women’s beach volleyball Jamaica defeated St Lucia 21-14, 21-18 and Curacao 21-15, 21-16.
