THE 17th Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival takes place on November 11 at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida.
A diverse offering of jerked foods is again the dominant feature, but promoters have gone for a musical line-up that appeals to South Florida’s evolving demographic.
Founder and promoter Eddy Edwards, said Freddie McGregor, Chino, LUST, Marcia Griffiths and The Mighty Diamonds are the confirmed performers.
“Every year we make an attempt to satisfy the old school, the current and the young through the main stage acts. We are in negotiations with a few more acts to add a little more excitement, as our goal is to increase attendance and attract first-time patrons from the mainstream community,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Last year’s show had Morgan Heritage, Ken Boothe and Yellowman as headliners.
Edwards started the event in 2000. He said he and his team make an effort to offer something different every year.
“We have made some improvements to enhance the patron experience and added a few new features upon entry such as the Culinary Museum and the Farm Up Jamaica Caribbean Farmer’s Market. We have also scheduled more entertainment earlier in the day, as the main stage will begin with performances at 12 (noon) with the Brother Gary Gospel Showcase, featuring top gospel acts such as Sister Pat, Prodigal, Da Flame, Second Chance and Bridget Blucher,” he disclosed.
The Publix Cook-off and Celebrity Challenge, staples of the show, are again on the list of activities.
