Veteran singjay Ronnie Thwaites is being sought by the New York City (NYC) police for assault and stabbing. According to a report from NYC’s 47 Precinct, the 51-year-old (whose given name is Ronald Brown) artiste “intentionally stabbed and slashed a male victim multiple times about the body, causing life-threatening injuries”.
The alleged incident took place in the vicinity of White Plains Road and East Gun Hill Road in New York on September 20.
Detective Sophia T Mason of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, confirmed the incident to the Jamaica Observer.
“The suspect remains outstanding at this time,” Det Mason said in an e-mail response to our queries.
She also said “the victim is in critical but stable condition”.
The police listed Ronnie Thwaites’ last known address to be in the Bronx, New York.
Thwaites burst on the music scene with the single Mr Luxury (The Wickedest Time)in late 1991. Released on the Jammy’s label, the song was number one in Jamaica the following year.
His other songs include Love of My Life Time, Respect Due to All Crew, Rasta Man and Lucky Day.
He was never able to replicate the success of Mr Luxury (The Wickedest Time).
