Tommy Lee Sparta is known for his hardcore dancehall personality, but the deejay, given name Leroy Russell, has a softer side – a generous, kind-hearted side not seem much by the general public.
The Montego Bay-born dancehall deejay regularly stages back-to-school treats, and is known in the community of Flanker where he grew up for assisting a number of residents.
“Whatever the situation, mi help but I don’t want credit for that,” he said when asked about his charity work. “It is a good look and feeling, mi wish everybody who could do it would help.”
The Love Yuh artiste remains committed to his hometown where he first got the motivation to pursue a career as a dancehall entertainer.
He took the advice of the people in Flanker and went on to record his first song, Sparta Story, at a studio in the community.
But his charity work does not end there. The deejay is currently re-evaluating his goals and projects as he prepares for the end of 2018 and the start of a new year.
One of the projects he named was a charity outreach for children in his home parish.
Tommy Lee Sparta said it has been something he has been thinking about for a while, but was not sure where to start.
“It woulda different from the usual. If mi do it fi di children, it just depends on when mi find out what and how fi do it,” Tommy Lee Sparta said.
Tommy Lee is presently featured in the Magnum Star Live, one of the latest live entertainment series, where patrons from various rural parishes would be able to experience performances from their favorite artistes and rock to juggling from top selectors.
The series, organized by THE STAR, will also have an in-paper element, with features the artiste and the parish where the event will take place.
Tommy Lee Sparta will kick-start the artiste performance aspect of the series on October 27 with a performance at the Cristal Night Club in Portland.
The event is sponsored by Magnum Xplosion, SpyTech, and Konka Energy Drink.
