SPICE DEBUTS ON BILLBOARD MAGAZINE TOP SPOT WITH “CAPTURED!”

THIS year, only three female artistes have reached number one on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart. Spice is the latest.

The raunchy deejay’s mixtape Captured, was released on November 2 via her Spice Official Entertainment label. It debuts with a paltry 505 copies sold.

Etana and British singer Hollie Cook are the other female acts who have topped the chart in 2018.

Their counterparts have not had much luck on the Reggae Album Chart. Since it came into existence in the mid-1990’s, only nine females have held the number one position, with four of them (Cook, Joss Stone, Hirie and Tenelle) being non-Jamaicans.

Queen Ifrica, Patra, Spice and Diana King have also made it to the top spot.

Elsewhere, producer Linton “TJ” White debuts at number seven with TJ Records Presents: Toco Loco Riddim Part 1. This compilation features songs from Machel Montano, KES, Patrice Roberts, Charly Black, Konshens, and Demarco.

White is best known for producing Vybz Kartel’s number one album King of The Dancehall, as well as two singles which charted on the Billboard R&B charts — Serani’s No Games and Mavado’s I’m So Special. 

New York-based quartet RSNY debuts at number two with Journey Begins, which sold 185 copies. The seven-track piece was released on November 2 on their RSNY Music label.

Former chart-topper Never Ending by Beres Hammond holds firm at number three spot with an additional 156 copies sold for total sales of 2,360.

Last week’s number one, Defy Gravity by The Elovaters, falls to number four, while Poetry in Motion by SOJA rebounds to number five. To date, Poetry in Motion has sold 8,333 copies.

Sting and Shaggy’s 44/876 slips to number six, the first time it has fallen outside the top five since its debut in April. It sold an additional 108 copies, a drop from the 311 copies it sold the previous week, for sales of 50,166.

Rebelution’s Free Rein falls to number eight with accumulated figures of 18,255 copies.

Everyday Life, Everyday People by Slightly Stoopid drops from number five to nine. It has sold 13,801 copies to date.

Rounding out the Top 10 is Iration’s self-titled set which moves up from number 12. It sold 61 copies last week, which is an increase over the 42 copies it registered the previous week, pushing its tally to 8,666.
