Olivia Grange —
Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, says next January’s staging of Rebel Salute will be a celebration of “the role played historically by Reggae music in the liberation of oppressed people across the world.”
Grange made the comment yesterday at the launch of the 2019 edition of Rebel Salute, which will be one of the first major Reggae music festivals in Jamaica since Reggae music was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the end of November.
“We had to fight” for this inscription, which is something that we must “never take for granted”, the minister said.
Rebel Salute 2019, which will receive financial support from the Culture Ministry, is one of Jamaica’s premier entertainment events.
According to Grange, “among the signature features of Rebel Salute is its unabashed presentation of our Jamaican and African heritage. Tony Rebel and Rebel Salute understand the importance of presenting to our people the dignity and integrity of our African ancestry as represented by the Rastafari culture and ideology. It is about inspiring our people to stand proud in promoting our heritage.”
Rebel Salute will be held on January 18 and 19, next year at Plantation Cove in St Ann.Sponsored LinksWood. Stone. Nacre. Probably the most natural Watches in the world. Find your very own piece of nature.HolzkernObesity Dr Warns: “Women with Slow Metabolisms Must Avoid These 3 Foods“Nucific
