THE third Red Rose For Gregory is set for Liguanea Club in New Kingston on February 17.
Head of the Gregory Isaacs Foundation, June Isaacs said she hosts the annual event to carry on her husband’s legacy.
“We have to pay homage to the ‘Cool Ruler’,” she said. “We have to continue the legacy and his memory. I am not a singer so I do it the best way I can.”
This year’s show will feature Grammy-winning American rhythm and blues singers Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle.
Bryson’s hit songs include Can You Stop The Rain, Tonight I Celebrate My Love, and Love Like Yours and Mine. Belle is known for hits such as Make It Like It Wasand This Is Love.
Their smash 1992 duet, A Whole New World, won the Grammy Award for Song of The Year.
Part proceeds from the event will go to Patricia House, which provides rehabilitation for drug and alcohol addiction.
“We know Gregory had his own struggles, “she told Jamaica Observer. “It’s not just about drugs, it’s about any addiction. Whatever we can do to help, we will do.”
Gregory Isaacs died from cancer in October 2010 at age 59. He suffered from cocaine addiction for much of his career and was arrested several times by the police.
He was the voice of hit songs like Night Nurse, Soon Forward, Tune In, Hard Drugs and Love is Overdue.
June Isaacs is thankful for the support she has received from the entertainment industry.
“I haven’t had any challenges,” she said. “The whole music fraternity supported me, the minister of culture and entertainment supported me. I get support from all angles; I am so grateful for all the support.”
