Roots singer Andrew Bees, who has been frontman for Black Uhuru for over 20 years, goes solo on his next project, the song Jah Jah A mi Shield .
The single, produced by Fitzroy Francis for Mightyful13 Records, is expected to be released soon. It features veteran guitarist Dwight Pinkney and Cliff Manswell who played drums, bass, keyboards and congos.
Andrew Bees welcomed the opportunity to once again work with Francis, who he has known for more than 35 years.
“We have been doing this for years. He produced my first album, Militant for Music Lion Records and I also recorded singles for his Mightyful13 Records,” said Bees.
He also addressed the difference between recording solo and being part of a group.
“Working with the group is much different from working with a self-reliance project,” he stated.
Jah Jah A mi Shield is expected to be one of the songs from Andrew Bees’ third solo album, scheduled for release this year.
Born Oneil Beckford, Andrew Bees is from Waterhouse in Kingston. His first album with Black Uhuru was Dynasty, released in 2001.
