Two Jamaican brothers who grew up listening to a mix of reggae and pop, have partnered with British independent record company In-Ex Records to distribute their eclectic sounds.

Tovi Soul & Felch

Fabion and Toval Soul, known professionally as Felch and Tovi Soul, respectively, have recorded a number of songs for the London-based company. Their EP, Will You Be There, was released in February last year, and they are currently promoting a new song, Table Turn, for the label.

“The feel of the EP is more of a smooth, R&B/pop style, but we still show other influences from other genres, such as dancehall and indie,” said Felch, who at 35, is older of the siblings by two years.

Will You Be There contains seven songs including the title track. Table Turn was released three months after the EP as the brothers closed 2018 with a flourish.

Felch also released the song While I’m Young, a collaboration with reggae singer Yaksta Carvanie. Tovi Soul went solo on I Wanna Be; both songs are produced by In-Ex Records which has worked with cutting-edge British artists since it was formed 12 years ago.

Though they have a close bond, Felch and Tovi Soul were raised in different environments. Felch grew up in Linstead, a market town in rural St. Catherine parish which has produced artists like singers Phyllis Dillon, Freddie McKay and Joseph Hill of Culture.

Tovi Soul was raised in east Kingston, a musically-rich area where Count Ossie and the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari and The Skatalites once roamed.

Their influences are a lot more contemporary, ranging from Bob Marley to Michael Jackson, Usher and Craig David.

Their chemistry, Felch points out, is evident on the EP and Table Turn.

“It’s great working together as siblings seeing that we’ve been doing this since we were kids…doing cover versions and singing at church. So, we do have a vocal gel and understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” he said. Reply  Reply All
