After the success of his label’s previous production, Jamaican producer Tomique ‘DJ Fresh’ Williams was determined the follow-up from Berta Records would be superior.
The Certitude rhythm is the Bronx, New York independent company’s third project which was recently released. It has five songs — Champion by Shuga, Real and Done from Chino McGregor, Give Isis which is done by Pressure, Jah Jah Children from Rockaz Elements and Unbothered by Bugle.
“The aim going into the planning stage with this project was to connect with the intended audience and project something refreshing to the ears,” said Williams.
He added that he and his team are pleased with the finished product.
“If you listen to Certitude really closely yuh can hear all the instruments coming through.”
Berta Records collaborated with Chino, Rockaz Elements and Bugle on Season Change, Berta Records’ previous rhythm which was released in 2017.
The Fresh rhythm, which came out one year earlier, was the label’s first major release. Williams, a former deejay, started Berta Records six years ago.
He is aware that producing catchy beats is not enough to break into a competitive dancehall arena, especially in New York and Jamaica. However, there is an advantage working out of the Big Apple.
“New York has an active dancehall/reggae scene. New York is very diverse with people not just from the Caribbean but from all over the world that loves the reggae and dancehall genes and our culture,” he said. “It is a hub and because of that reggae music has the opportunity to be heard all over the world.” Reply
