Kaliba
The St Andrew South police have launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of a budding entertainer and another man on Bertram Lane in the Maxfield Avenue community last Friday.
Those killed are entertainer Jayvon Francis, more popularly known as Kaliba of a Bertram Lane, Kingston 13 address and 40-year-old Ishmael ‘Pops’ Golbourne of Strudwick Close, Kingston 10.
Reports are that about 3:45 p.m., Golbourne and Francis were sitting beside the road when a motor car drove up.
Three armed men reportedly exited the car and opened gunfire, hitting Golbourne and Francis.
They were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.
An investigator close to the probe told THE STAR that the two men may have been killed because of another murder.
“A man from the community was killed outside of the community earlier last Friday and this double murder may be linked to his murder. Warring factions have been at odds for sometime. We are still conducting our assessment,” the senior policeman told THE STAR.
The victim in that incident is Dwayne ‘Black Black’ Reid, 35, laborer of Fitzgerald Avenue, Kingston 13.
EATING LUNCH
Reports from the Matilda’s Corner police is that about 12:25 p.m., Reid was having lunch at a restaurant along Barbican Road when he was pounced upon by armed men who shot him. That killing is still being investigated.
Our news team gathered that Francis died leaving behind an unborn child.
His long-time associate and fellow entertainer Black Ryno, who recorded with Kaliba in the past, took to instagram upon learning of his death.
“Jah know Kaliba mi still can’t believe #RIP,” Black Ryno wrote under a music video to their collaboration Dem Say Dem A Friend.
Kaliba is also known for songs like Inna Dem Ya Time Ya, Deliver and Do Road Fi Di Paper.
The Corporate Communications Unit confirmed the reports and told THE STAR that the Hunts Bay police are investigating the double murder.
