In Our America , the first solo album from American singer Aaron Nigel Smith, debuts at number one on this week’s Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. The 14-song set which was released on March 8 by Aya World Productions/Tuff Gong International, sold 174 copies in its opening week.
Deleon “Jubba” White of the Dubtonic Kru produced the album.
Smith is an educator and established musician known for the Emmy Award-winning PBS show Between The Lions. He is also founder of 1 World Chorus, a non-profit organisation serving youth in the United States, Kenya and Jamaica.
Smith has produced and released five albums for children, including 1 World Chorus: Celebrating Bob Marley in collaboration with Ziggy Marley’s Tuff Gong Worldwide.
In Our America is a collection of songs inspired by global events.
Fox Fuse Presents: Get Soca 2019 sold 120 copies to hold the number two spot for a second week. To date, the set has moved 491 copies.
Standing firm at number four is 44/876 by Sting and Shaggy. With 47 weeks on the chart, the album has generated sales of 52,889 copies.
Slipping two spots to number five is Free Rein by Rebelution. In its 39th week on the chart, it has sold 20,229 copies.
Two weeks ago, Strictly the Best Vol 58 sold 27 copies. Last week, it sold 71 copies and has risen from number 13 to six; a former chart-topper, the various artistes’ compilation has so far sold 627 copies.
Falling to number seven is Summer to Winter by Kolohe Kai, while Soca Universe 2019, Vol 1 which peaked at number five, is down to number nine.
After 33 weeks, former number one Everyday Life, Everyday People by Slightly Stoopid is number 10. It has sold 15,417 copies.
