Samory I —
Singer Samory I’s second album, tentatively scheduled for release late this year, will be produced by Phillip “Winta” James. It is the follow-up to 2017’s Black Gold which was produced by Rory “Stone Love” Gilligan.
According to the artiste’s manager, Bridgett Anderson, they engaged James to bring “a different energy” in terms of direction. James, a keyboardist, has worked extensively with neo-roots acts like Chronixx, Protoje, Kabaka Pyramid and Jesse Royal.
James, who has toured as a musician with Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, is now an established producer. Who Knows by Protoje and Chronixx, and Jesse Royal’s Modern Day Judas are two of the hit songs he has produced for his Overstanding Entertainment label.
Black Gold earned Samory I a following in Europe where he has toured the last two years. Rasta Nuh Gangsta and his cover of American blues singer’s Is It Because I’m Black, were two of the hit songs from Black Gold.
No date has been set for the release of the yet-titled album.
Samory I is scheduled to perform in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on March 30.
